Episode 6: “Porter of Baghdad Part I”

The saga  continues with 1001 Arabian nights Audio Drama Porter of Baghdadfrom Sir Richard Burton's timeless classic "Arabian Nights Entertainments. The story begins with a handsome young  porter who is accosted by a beautiful young lady who needs his services at the market while shopping. As he is invited into her home, he haplessly stumbles into an drunken bacchanal at the house of her two sisters, on the condition he asks no questions of any goings on in the house. Later three robed one-eyed Kalandars join the party and they too are invited on the condition they keep secrets of the household. Later the Caliph Haroun al Raschid, and his trusty sworder Masrur and minister Ja’afar, all disguised as travelers enter the party, just in time for a closet of secrets, two howling black dogs who are whipped by the weeping eldest sister, and the second sister tearing her clothes to show marks of scourges while the third plays a haunting tune. As the Caliph can no longer stand the curiosity, he goads the young porter to break his oath of secrecy.

The Eldest lady threatens with the sword, and in turn the guests must reveal their own secrets, starting first with the young Porter.

“Fisherman and the Djinni Part II: The Ensorcelled Prince”

The saga continues with 1001 Arabian nights Audio drama "Fisherman and the Djinni Part II: The Ensorcelled Prince."  from Sir Richard Burton's timeless classic "Arabian Nights Entertainments The cunning fisherman has outwitted the Djinni by coaxing him in the bottle, but the Ocean Djinni has the last laugh. The 1800 year old Djinni shows the fisherman to a remote mountain lake, and bids him to cast his net once per day. To his amazement, the fishes are multicolored and speak to magic entities wearing sapphires, when they are fried.

The King of the Lake Kingdom sets out to solve the rare mysteries. In the middle of a desert he discovers an abandoned castle, with a weeping prince who is ebony stone from the waist down. The melancholy prince tells his tragic tale, complete with an hideous mausoleum inhabited by his treacherous sorceress wife, and her necromancer African lover. The secrets of the ensorcelled Prince and the fountain of the blue, white, yellow and red magic fishes are revealed in this exciting tale of sorcery, and royal revenge.

“Fisherman and the Djinni:” Part I “King Yunan and Sage Duban”

1001 Arabian nights Audio drama of the "Fisherman and the Djinni: King Yunan and Sage Duban" from Sir Richard Burton's timeless classic "Arabian Nights Entertainments."

The tale continues as Sherazade begins the tale of "Fisherman and the Djinni." A poor humble fisherman unearths from the bottom of the ocean 1800 year old brass jar containing  a malicious and wicked Djinni. The evil spirit offers him choice of deaths, and the fisherman engages in tricks and tales to outwit him. The first is the story of "King Yunan and Sage Duban."

The illustrious sage Duban cures the ailing King Yunan of leprosy and is granted a high seat in the King's court, much to the  evil Wazir's chagrin. The Wazir suggests the King to kill the kindly sage, but not until three more stories are told by the pair. "King Sindibad and his Falcon, ""The Husband and the Parrot," "Prince and the Ogress," leading ultimately to a twisting and chilling conclusion. Talking decapited heads, poisonous vipers, wicked ghulahs, and wicked lovers abound in this five-in-one tale.

“Tale of the Trader and the Djinni”

The third terrifying tale continues in the 1001 Audio drama of  "Trader and Djinni" from Sir Richard Burton's timeless classic the Arabian Nights Entertainments. A merchant trader throws stones in the desert, and enrages a Desert Djinni who plans to murder the merchant for haplessly killing his son. When the merchant returns in one year to face the Djinni's wrath, three old Shaykhs, one with an enchanted  gazelle, the other with two greyhounds, and the eldest with a mule. The Djinni agrees to exchange a third of the trader's sentence if the wandering Shaykhs reveal the secret of the mysterious animals. Tales of revenge, redemption and sorcery filled with femme fatales, magicians, and shape-shifting Ifritahs. Cast Features:

The Bull and the Ass

Welcome to the second episode of the 1001 Arabian Nights audio drama, adapted from Sir Richard Burton's timeless classic "Arabian Nights Entertainments." The Arabian Nights  tale continues as the witty Wazir tries to reason with his willful daughter Sharzahd, weaving a tale that begins in a humble barnyard between a merchant farmer and a bellowing Bull, a Braying Ass, a doleful Dog, and a cocky Cock! This merchant is no ordinary fellow as he understands the speech of birds and beasts. His laughing almost causes him to lose his life over revealing the animal's secrets at the insistence of his shrewish wife. Upon the tale's conclusion, Sharzahd seals her fate to the vengeful King Shahryar. Introducing Sharzahd's  lovely sister Dunyazad in this prelude to the first of 1001 Nights.
