The haunting and spell-binding "Tale of the Three apples" 1001 Arabian nights Audio Drama from Sir Richard Burton's timeless classic "Arabian Nights Entertainments begins with the return of the Caliph and Ja'afar who travel incognito about the kingdom. They happen upon an old fisherman carrying a basket upon his head. The Caliph is moved by pity for the old man, and offers him gold in exchange for the first thing that is dredged up, an old chest. A grisly discovery is made inside of a reed basket, containing the remains of young woman. The Caliph is enraged at this horrifying sight, and demands that Ja'afar find the murderer in three days or to be hung with his kinsmen. Surprisingly an old man and a young man come forth confessing to the murder. The Caliph wished to hang them both, but instead is convinced by the young man, who recants a tragic and grisly tale of his young wife, whose only wish was three golden apples. The words of a lying and cunning slave, Jafa'ars own children, and the three apples of discord weave destiny into an ironic twist of fate that saves Ja'af'ars life and delights and astounds the capricious Caliph.
